Laguiole Knives The Laguiole (pronounced Lay-ole) originated as a herdsman's knife and is a blend of Spanish and French craft influences. Created entirely in the town of Laguiole, each knife is an original, hand-fashioned from brass, 440 stainless steel, horn tip or precious wood and engraved with the distinctive Laguiloe Bee, a Napoleonic symbol of immortality and resurrection. The cross of small rivets on many of the handles has allowed shepherds, otherwise unable to attend Sunday service while caring for their herds, to create their own place of worship by opening the blade and planting the knife in the ground. Each knife is offered with a natural-colored or black leather sheath. Also, Laguiole offers each knife in a polished or brushed finish. Our selection always varies slightly from what is pictured here. If a particular knife appeals to you, please call concerning availability and pricing, as our shipments indeed come from France and are subject to the Euro conversion rate. Special ordering is an option at no extra cost, and we can always send pictures of particular knives from our current stock. |
