Butch Anthony

Bishop "Butch" Anthony was born in 1964 and lives in rural Alabama. A jack-of-all-trades, he is especially skilled in carpentry. He built the log cabin he lives in. Anthony spends most of his time around woods and creeks. Consequently he has a large collection of shark's teeth, arrowheads and other artifacts and peculiar objects that often show up in his artwork and in his Museum of Wonders. He has been drawing since he was a boy and began painting in 1994. He started painting on cardboard boxes, and now he paints on tin, plywood or canvas. Some of his paintings depict his own past experiences, whil others offer a humorous commentary on modern life. Recently , he created a series of "Freak Show" paintings using the actual canvas from an itinerant freak show tents. Butch also creates large and small sculptures and furniture out of tin, wire, wood, and cast- off materials such as license plates, tools, wagon wheels and wire wheels from an old Chevy.
