Joyce Thornburg

Joyce Thornburg, a native North Carolinian, lives in Asheville, NC. A resident of South Florida for many years, Joyce's painting has been influenced by the passions of tropical environments. She expresses herself on any surface she can find--canvas, salvaged wood or paper. Untrained, she dives into each new painting with a relish, looking to let colors dance and the composition find its own rhythm.

Joyce uses special places and treasured photographs as inspiration. She tends to work on multiple paintings at once, jumping from realism to visionary to anything in-between. At the end of a painting session, she utilizes the left over pigments on her palette paper to create rather primitive or abstract gesture paintings full of emotion and wild abandon.
