Missionary Mary Proctor

Missionary Mary hails from Tallahassee, Florida and considers herself to be a missionary in the sense that she shares her messages and truths through her artwork. In 1995, while grieving for her grandmother, aunt and uncle who died in a house fire, she received a vision which began her career as an artist. A sweet voice spoke to her and told her to “paint the door”. Since that time, Proctor has painted so much that she sometimes wonders what is wrong with her. Anything from her junkyard—The Noah’s Art Flea Market—is a potential surface for her powerful and poignant images. She incorporates found objects such as buttons, broken glass, pebbles, pennies, old note cards and cut up tin cans and packaging materials for common products. She writes messages across her paintings that she wants the world to know.
