Michael Banks

Michael Banks is a young, self-taught artist from Alabama who knew from the time he was a child that he wanted to be an artist. He was a star athlete in high school, lettering in football, basketball and track. He was offered athletic scholarships to play at LSU and other colleges, all of which he turned down in order to continue his interest in painting. His earlier work showed influences of various 20th century movements including Cubism, Realism & the Art Brut & Primitive movements. During the last three years, Michael's art has evolved into a unique style that is truly his own vision. With this development has come a significant increase in demand for his painting. His work is collected by lovers of self-taught art, & by those with an interest in contemporary art, as well. He was sent a last minute invitation to participate in the Kentuck Arts Festival in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 2002. He carried almost 100 paintings and was virtually sold out in the first day of the festival.
