SPENCER Herr

Spencer Herr is a young Asheville, NC artist with roots in the Southwest. He was raised exploring the deserts and mountains of that region and his paintings reflect his love of those rugged environments. Spencer views his paintings as journal entries that document places, relationships and states of mind.

Spencer came to the Southeast by way of Virginia where he worked as a carpenter and lived in difficult circumstances. He coped with frozen plumbing and piling snow on his bedroom floor by building an easel and creating paintings that reflected his sense of longing and lack of control.

Spencer's current works address the struggle to reconcile passion, occupation and a sense of well being. He finds inspiration from Matthew 6:26 which reads "Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns and yet your heavenly Father feeds them..." Spencer hopes and strives to one day find the same ease with which animals seemingly move through their lives, ideally having basic needs met organically with abundance and grace.
